Caring

There are times in which you may feel alone and abandoned.  In John chapter 9 we are introduced to a man who was born blind.  Jesus healed the man but the Pharisees were extremely upset that he was healed on the Sabbath.  Jesus method of healing did not fit into their theological paradigm.

The Pharisees interrogated the man who had been healed however they were not satisfied with his response.  So they went to his parents but his parents did not want to get involved in a theological debate with the Pharisees.  John 9:22 reveals the reason for their reticence, “His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.”

Not only did he not have any support from his parents but the Pharisees questioned him again.  The Pharisees reprimanded him, “’You were born entirely in sins, and are you teaching us?’ So they put him out.”  You may think “No, big deal.”  It was a big deal however, for the synagogue was the nexus of social relationships in the community – that is why his parents were so fearful to speak out.

So here was the man who had been miraculously healed feeling alone and abandoned by his parents.  But Jesus knew and He cared about him, “Jesus heard that they had put him out, and finding him, He said, ‘Do you believe in the Son of Man?’”  (John 9:35).  The reality is Jesus knows what you are going through and He cares for you.  Jesus’ invitation is open to all “Come to Me all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”  He’s waiting for you to come to Him and give you His rest – come and experience His rest!
