What brings you refreshment? Jeanne and I love to be with our grandchildren. Young children are great – they are open, honest, and genuine! In our journey from childhood to adulthood why do we often lose our way? We think we must put up a front and wear a mask to be someone else. We position and posture thinking we’re going in the right direction only to discover we’ve lost our way.
Jesus makes an interesting statement to His disciples in Matthew 18, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” Notice the word “become” – He is calling us to become like children and we must realize it’s a process. It’s a process of unlearning the pride of independence and willfulness that we thought were important and we must return to the humility of a child. Jesus is calling us to be childlike not childish. Theologians call this process sanctification and people who know you will call you authentic!
Take some time to be with children. You will learn more than you realize and it will be refreshment to your soul!
