What do you believe God wants to do in your life? You may look at your talents and abilities and have some ideas; however, they probably fall short of what God wants to do in and through your life. The Bible indicates that we cannot imagine all that God has in mind for those who love Him,

but just as it is written, “THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)

We have a tendency to walk by sight, but our human efforts are inadequate to plumb the depths of God’s spiritual verities. We find it difficult to comprehend the amazing work God wants to do in our lives. How can we come to know of God’s plans for our lives? Paul reveals the answer in the next verse,

For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. (1 Corinthians 2:10)

Spiritual truths are spiritually discerned. A believer is not merely consigned to the physical senses but has access to the spiritual dimension. God’s Spirit enables us to understand His work in our lives,

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, (1 Corinthians 2:12)

What if I can’t understand God’s plan for my life? If that is the case, then I may be walking by sight rather than by faith or I may be a natural man. A natural man is an individual who has not been regenerated by the Spirit of God,

But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. (1 Corinthians 2:14)

The one who is spiritual however, has spiritual discernment and is able to understand the truths of the Spirit,

But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. (1 Corinthians 2:15)

We can become so inured to the way of the world that lose sight of the Spirit. When we have spiritual eyes it’s like radar that is able to see through the fog. You are able to realize spiritual truth  that the human mind cannot see. The inimitable Vance Havner reminds us that we don’t need to understand how or why God works, we simply need to trust in His goodness, “I don’t know how a black cow can eat green grass and give white milk, but it doesn’t stop me from enjoying ice cream.”

Take some time and listen to the Spirit – what does He want to do in your life? Don’t settle for your plans, step out into the great adventure that God has for you. When you see with spiritual eyes, you will see the invisible, hear the inaudible, believe the incredible, and do the impossible!
