You have power over your mind, not external circumstances. Realize this and you will find strength.
Marcus Aurelius

We bring frustration upon ourselves when we attempt to control things beyond our control. Are you facing difficult circumstances? Why are you surprised – we live in a fallen world. If we give in to self-pity then we may lose our sense of responsibility and play the role of a victim.

Our primary locus of control is ourselves. Although you may not be able to control your external circumstances, you can control yourself and your response to your circumstances. This enables you to become a victor and not a victim of your circumstances. Remember that God is sovereign and He is causing all things to work together for good to those who love Him and to those who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). May you realize your ability, and your responsibility, to transform your mind.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
