I’ve been unplugged these past several days – no internet, no social media, no cell phone (and no cell phone coverage). I’ve been enjoying God’s creation in the mountains with several men from our church.

The Psalmist encouraged us in Psalm 46:10,

“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Here are a few of the reasons for being still and getting to know God:

You must fight to get away and go dark from electronics. Distractions are a major threat that keep us from hearing from God.

Spartan living is good for the soul. We can become inured to soft living and we must learn to simplify our lives.

We are made for fellowship. It’s a great blessing when men drop their masks and share their hearts with one another. As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another (Proverbs 27:17)

Nature provides inspiration. The cool temperatures, the gentle breezes, and the smell of a balsam forest invigorate the soul.

God richly blessed our time together. It’s a blessing to enjoy a break from our busy schedules and hear from God. When is the last time you invested some time to be still and hear from God?
