Jeanne and I are attending the 3dm Discipleship and Mission Conference at Pawley’s Island. 3dm trains churches and Christian leaders how to do discipleship and mission in an increasingly post-Christian world. The movement started approximately thirty years ago in England and was extremely successful and then moved to the continent and is now developing faith communities in America.
We are participating in plenary sessions, small huddle groups, and experiencing a missional community in the evenings over dinner. Most of the participants are from mainline denominations; the people in my huddle group represent United Methodist, Lutheran, and Episcopal denominations.
We had a good discussion concerning how to create a discipleship culture. Taking me back to my college calculus class, we discussed the importance of inflection points where the slope changes significantly to bring about a significant change – see the diagram below,
We discussed how to facilitate an inflection point in one’s life. As you reflect upon your life, how can you facilitate an inflection point in your life and ministry? What do you need to stop doing and what do you need to start doing?
