Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord and not for people, (Colossians 3:23)
Do you do your work with all your heart? I realize there is no perfect job and every job has its difficulties. We are to put our whole heart into our work realizing that we’re ultimately working for the Lord and not simply for people. Sometimes I counsel with people who feel that they’re stuck in their current occupation and they struggle just to get through the day. The sunk cost fallacy is a tendency to continue with an endeavor we’ve invested money, effort, or time into — even if the current costs outweigh the benefits. Are you feeling stuck in your current job?
I had a career that I enjoyed and was selected for an early promotion, but it also involved a good deal of family separation. I decided that my family was more important than my career and I have no regrets about that decision to put my family first. I have constructed a career and lifestyle in which I am not seeking to escape from it. I am doing what I would choose to do – even if I were not working. Life is too short to be climbing the ladder of success only to find that it’s leaning against the wrong wall. It’s been said that we have two lives. The first one starts at birth. The second one starts when we are born again and we realize God’s purpose for us.

Hi Rick, I think of you often, so please forgive me for not reaching out more. All is well with Paige and I; we are enjoying our 3 kids, their spouses and 5 grandchildren. I’m now going on my 5th year teaching JROTC, which has been very rewarding and an excellent wellness program for me. Your above message is a very good one and one I can relate to.
Your forever friend,
Greg
