John_15_41

All of us have experienced the frustration of not being connected to our wireless network.  We want to make that phone call but without the connection we’re unable communicate.  Jesus illustrated the importance of being connected 2,000 years ago,

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. (John 15:4)

Jesus uses the metaphor of the vine and branches showing that the branch cannot bear fruit unless it is connected to the vine.  Years ago one of our children broke off a beautiful flower from one of our plants.  Intuitively realizing this was not good he or she (the identity of the guilty party will be preserved) stuck it back in the dirt.  It looked fine – for a while; but then it became evident that the flower was not connected to the vine.

Jesus gives us the secret for experiencing a fruitful life – be connected to HIm.  The word “abide” conveys the idea to remain or stay, it enables us to be connected to the source.  Abiding is an intimate relationship with God that is often sustained through prayer.  You must stay connected to stay fruitful.

What are some ways that help you to stay connected to God?
