We are immersed in a world that appeals to our fleshly desires. The Apostle Paul taught us that we are not to battle in the flesh, but we must recognize our spiritual weapons:

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. (2 Corinthians 10:3-4)

Our default response may be to rely upon our fleshly strength, but we must realize that the flesh cannot overcome the flesh. We are engaged in a momentous battle against the world, the flesh, and the devil. The battleground is the mind, that’s why Paul gave us this admonition:

We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, (2 Corinthians 10:5)

We must take captive those thoughts that are contrary to God and His word. What are the tactical steps you can take for winning the battle for your mind?

First, we must be transformed by the renewing of our mind. The world will seek to squeeze you into its mold, but you must be on guard:

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2).

We must be proactive and realize that a mind in neutral will always roll down hill:

Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:13).

Passivity is a great challenge in our spiritual lives. We demonstrate our spiritual dependence upon God as we go to Him in prayer:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

There is great comfort in knowing that He can guard our hearts and minds. Finally, you must assume responsibility to choose truth and commit yourself to live accordingly:

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. (Philippians 4:8)

You can either take your thoughts captive or they will take you captive. You must realize that if what you’re thinking is not true, then what you’re feeling is not accurate. Don’t be led about by your feelings, but be guided by God’s word. If you are going to win the battle for your mind, then you must know God’s word.
