You must realize that you are in a cosmic battle of good versus evil. The thief comes to take what God wants to give to you. Too many Christians do not have a vibrant, growing relationship with God, but rather a feeling of emptiness. There is nothing supernatural about their lives. How would you characterize your life? Rather than allowing the thief to take what God wants to give you, you must understand the battle you face,
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10:10)
The word “life” in this verse, does not refer to physical life, but rather a vibrant life characterized by vitality. Jesus came that you may have an abundant life. This is an overflowing life that is over and above the average life. What percentage of Christian’s do you believe are experiencing an abundant life? Are you experiencing an abundant life?
Why do we settle for less than God’s best? We may not realize the battle that we’re facing and we settle for average. Robertson McQuilkin wisely observed, “Average is not necessarily normal.” The normal Christian life is characterized by joy in the midst of difficult circumstances and peace in the midst of uncertainty – this is God’s standard for us. Average is the worst of the best and the best of the worst. If Jesus promised us an abundant life then why does it seem so many people are not experiencing such a life? Although this list is not exhaustive, here are some fundamental reasons:
1. Ignorance – some people don’t know such a life is possible. Paul challenged the church at Rome that they would know their true position in Christ,
knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; (Romans 6:6)
2. Unbelief – we may think that such a life is possible for others, but not for us. Our lack of faith can cause us to miss the fullness of life God has promised for His people.
So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. (Hebrews 3:19)
3. Rebellion – We seek to go our own way rather than to follow God.
There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. (Proverbs 14:12)
You must believe that such a life is possible. True faith enables you to overcome the lies of the thief so you can take God at His word. Do not be afraid to set your sights too high, but be careful that you do not set your sights too low and become content with a subnormal, mediocre life. You were created on purpose, with a purpose, for a purpose. Don’t settle for less than what God wants to provide for you.
