The word adventure is defined as a bold, usually risky undertaking involving hazardous action of uncertain outcome. We visited Niagara Falls and Abigail wanted to take the hike at the base of the falls. We donned yellow parkas and sandals and took an elevator ride to the Niagara Gorge to “immerse” ourselves in the experience.
At the base of the falls we noticed the hurricane deck, the park guide said the wind from the falls is 90-100 miles per hour on the deck. Abigail asked me to take her up there – it was a great experience, we could hardly stand up! My parka was torn from the force of the wind and I got wet but we made a fun memory.
Adventures provide excitement to life and keep us from falling into a dull routine. I like to think of adventures as the ice cream sundaes of life. You wouldn’t necessarily have a steady diet of them but you look forward to them every now and then. You can play it safe or you can embark upon an adventure and see God at work. Jesus has given us the best adventure of all,
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20)
What a great commission! We have the privilege of going in His name and helping people to learn how to follow Jesus. May the words of Helen Keller inspire you as you embark upon your adventure, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing,” What is an adventure you’re experiencing?
