LEADERS– THE NOTES YOU HUM WILL BECOME THE TUNE THEY SING!

In this (or any) crisis time, your attitude is contagious.

Whether you’re a top leader that followers are looking up to or a peer-leader that those around you listen to– people are getting their cues from YOU.  They’re “tuned into” your tune!

Your expressions, words, and actions set the tone, “color” the atmosphere, and affect how everyone you influence
–feels
–thinks
–talks
–acts

…which in turn affects how everyone THEY influence feels, thinks, talks, and acts.

I’m not recommending a denial of reality. I’m recommending a spiritually and emotionally healthy interpretation of reality!

Let’s consider a sad illustration of an unhealthy interpretation of reality, recorded in Scripture (Num. 13-14):

After the Israelites had miraculously escaped from Egypt, they went through the wilderness, and arrived at the entrance to the land the Lord promised them.  Note—PROMISED—as in The Promised Land.

This should have given them all total assurance that they’d be able to enter and dwell there, since the Lord always keeps His promises!  If someone doesn’t keep their promise, it’s because they either lack the resources, strength, willingness, or faithfulness to do so.  God doesn’t lack any of these.  Therefore we can trust Him to keep His promises.

But almost all the Israelites didn’t trust Him.  Instead, they wailed, grumbled, and lamented that they’d never get in and even if they did, they’d be wiped out by the “giants” currently inhabiting the land.

Where did they get that idea?  From the 10 out of 12 spies sent there to scope out the land—the guys who came back with the report, “Yeah, everything’s great there—BUT…” –then listed all the logical and emotional reasons why it would never work! (Num. 13:26-33)

Two of the spies tried to counter that contagiously poisonous reasoning, but their voices were drowned out.  Negativity prevailed.  Hope sank into despair. Joy soured into sorrow.  Cheering changed to churning out bitter woes.  Support turned into talk of stoning their top leaders.  (Num. 14:1-4)

The result? They all got put into “time out” for another nearly-40 years until every adult of that negative generation died off except for the two guys who tried to convince them to trust God! (Num. 14:5f)

Do you see something good?  Keep it that way in your heart, mind, and speech.  Don’t “But…” into it!

Are you seeing or hearing only bad reports?  Don’t learn that tune and don’t teach it to anyone else!

Are you like Joshua and Caleb, trusting the Lord and trying to stem the tide of negativity in a sea of nay-saying?  Keep singing the Lord’s love, power, and faithfulness!  Such as this:

“The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation!”  Ps. 118:14

Sing it loud and clear, for those around to hear.  It will have an effect, more than you may see at first.

Are you humming…
–the blues?
–a dirge?

–a loud lament?
–a calming chant?
–a pep song?
–a ballad of truth?

What notes are you humming these days? You’re influencing others who influence others– and it’s a catchy tune!
