No man is free who is not master of himself.
Epictetus
Epictetus asked the question, “Who is your master?” His conclusion was anyone who has control over that upon which you’ve set your heart. How often do we allow others to hold sway over our emotions? The good news is you do not need to hand over control of your life to others. As you surrender to the Holy Spirit, He can take control of your life. As you walk by the Spirit you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
Like a city that is broken into and without walls is a man who has no control over his spirit. (Proverbs 25:28)
