Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is
what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.
John Wooden
One of the most revered coaches in the history of sports, John Wooden won ten NCAA national championships in a 12-year period as head coach at UCLA, including a record seven in a row. As a 5’10” guard, Wooden was named a basketball All-American three times, and he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player (1960) and as a coach (1973).
People have a tendency to focus on their reputation rather than their character out of concern of what other people think about them. Do not become overly concerned about what others may think of you, but be concerned about what you think of yourself.
Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. (Proverbs 4:23)
