Man is troubled not by events, but by the meaning he gives them.
Epictetus
This principle by Epictetus reminds me of the words of John Milton in Paradise Lost, “The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..” Do we understand the incredible power of our thoughts to influence our attitudes? What meaning are you assigning to the events of your life? You may not be able to choose your circumstances, but you can choose how you respond to them.
For as he thinks within himself, so he is. (Proverbs 23:7a)
