Act, speak, and think like a man ready to depart this life in the next breath.
Marcus Aurelius
How often do we take our days for granted thinking that we can always do it later? Marcus reminds us that our days are numbered. We need to throw open the windows of our souls to the sun and live with abandon. H. Jackson Brown captures this sentiment, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
You may feel that it’s too late for you, but remember it’s never too late to do what’s right. You can’t change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future. You have one life to live and you don’t know when it will end. You don’t need to be concerned that someday your life will end, but rather be concerned that your life will never begin – let’s start living!
So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12)
