Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living; the world owes you nothing; it was here first.
Mark Twain
Entitlement can be a deadly trap. If you think the world owes you, then you will experience much disappointment. If you don’t get what you want it can lead to self-pity and victimization.
There was a man who was not content to wait in line at the airport and he angrily pointed a finger at the attendant, raised his voice, and said, “Don’t you know who I am?” All eyes were on this exchange between the irate man and the attendant. The attendant calmly picked up the intercom and announced, “We have a gentleman here at the counter who needs your help. He doesn’t know who he is. If anyone can help him with his identity, please come here to the counter.”
We would be far better off taking the Apostle Peter’s advice,
You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time. (1 Peter 5:5-6)
