What is the greatest Christmas gift you’ve ever received? Was it an official “Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle” with a compass in the stock? Perhaps it was a special memory of being with a loved one after a long absence. The Apostle Paul thanks God for the greatest gift in his life,
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15)
What was Paul identifying as this indescribable gift? In 2 Corinthians chapters 8 and 9 the context is describing giving and providing for the needs of the saints. Paul realizes that there is a gift that is greater than material blessings and that the greatest gift of all is Jesus. When you receive Jesus then you discover that He is the source of all that you will ever need,
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? (Romans 8:32)
The statement is true, “You never know God is all you need until God is all you have.” Have you lost sight of the sufficiency of Christ in your life? This Christmas season would be a great time to restore the “joy of your salvation.” Perhaps you’ve never received God’s indescribable gift. Maybe you’ve been trying to earn it but then it would not be a gift if you worked for it. A gift must be received not earned,
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
May this Christmas be a time of rejoicing as you realize God’s indescribable gift of Jesus in your life!
