As I write this I am sitting in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany looking at majestic mountains breathtakingly rising up before me. A few moments earlier I was reflecting on the words of the Psalmist as he wrote,
I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? (Psalm 121:1)
Even though the mountains are an awesome sight to behold there is something even more powerful and that was his God,
My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:2)
He was focusing on the God who made the mountains! Where is your focus? Is it on the events of your life – good or bad that are keeping you from focusing on the One who is your only true source of help and strength? Perhaps there is a mountain in your life that is capturing your focus. Lift up your eyes beyond the mountain and realize the God who is greater than any mountain you will ever face.
The Psalmist concludes his meditation with a fresh perspective and new confidence.
The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever. (Psalm 121:7-8)
Do not be limited by what you see around you – lift up your eyes to the One who is sovereign over all!
