All of us have encountered circumstances when we have hit a brick wall. Perhaps it’s a difficult situation in dealing with another person. Maybe you’re trying to make a change in your life and you’re not getting anywhere. It could be trying to understand a situation that looks impossible. That was the dilemma Jesus’ disciples were trying to figure out when Jesus told them how difficult it is for a rich man to get to heaven. The disciples were dumbfounded and Mark 10:26 describes their response,
They were even more astonished and said to Him,” Then who can be saved?”
The disciples were confused as they were trying to reorient their worldview. How do you respond when you face a situation that seems confusing or even insurmountable? Initially we may try harder. It seems however, that the harder we try the more frustrated we become. So we say, “What’s the use” the situation appears to be hopeless. We may even give up in frustration.
The problem is that the more we focus upon our efforts the less rely upon God. The reality is that you and I are going to face situations that are beyond our ability to deal with them – we need God. As you face the brick walls in your life be encouraged by the truth Jesus gave to His disciples in the next verse,
Looking at them, Jesus said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”
This is a truth repeated throughout the Scriptures – nothing is too difficult for God! Do you believe it? Do you believe it applies to you for the brick wall you are currently facing? Be encouraged that all things are possible with God!
