This past week I joined nearly 300 ministry leaders at the Forum of Biblical Agencies in Orlando, Florida. The forum introduced Uncover the Word™ a national movement of people who are committed to the daily practice of Scripture engagement. We participated in lectures, devotions, and small groups to share ideas how to transform culture through the power of God’s Word.
One of my favorite presentations was by Rick Warren. He is extremely gracious and humble and after his talk I had the opportunity to speak with him and His love for God’s Word and people is clearly evident.
At the end of our conference we signed the Uncover the Word Commitment thereby pledging that:
WE DECLARE our confidence in God’s living and active Word. We renew our trust that the Spirit illuminates the words of Scripture, and this revelation will not return void but accomplish the fullness of God’s purposes.
WE RENEW our personal daily encounter with God in Scripture. We recognize our ongoing need to be transformed into the likeness of Christ for the glory of God. We commit to align the faith we preach with faithfully living the Scriptures, showing in word and deed the Bible’s life-changing message and attractiveness of the Christ we proclaim.
WE RESTORE the Bible to a place of centrality. We seek to reverse this trend of biblical illiteracy, recovering a central place for the Bible’s redemptive narrative in worship, preaching, teaching, prayer, spiritual formation and Christian witness in our local churches. In keeping with the best of our Christian traditions, we embrace the challenges and opportunities of communicating the Gospel in contemporary cultures.
WE DEDICATE ourselves to create compelling invitations to Scripture engagement, including audio-visual and digital-social media. Together, we will shape common strategies and coordinate initiatives for the transformative communication of the Bible, drawing our neighbors to join us as we encounter God in Scripture and are formed in Jesus’ image for the glory of God.
Will you join me in declaring your commitment to live by God’s Word? “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success” (Joshua 1:8).
