The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
attributed to Edmund Burke and John Stuart Mill
The world is shocked and saddened by the horrific invasion of a sovereign nation by Putin. History teaches us that evil exists and that appeasement with a dictator is often a fool’s errand. Dictators, such as Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, and Kim Jong-un, just to name a few, reveal what happens when a dictator has unchecked power. These autocrats not only ruled their countries, but sought to attack and invade others.
I’ve had the privilege of serving in the military and have had the opportunity to count the cost of war. The sane person realizes that war is not a first response, but it may be a necessary action to prevent evil from spreading – Neville Chamberlin learned this lesson as he sought to appease Nazi Germany.
I am not proposing that we enter into the conflict, but why did Biden not include in his list of sanctions any meaningful controls on Russian energy exports? If the price of a barrel of oil is $100 that effectively offsets the impact of any sanctions on Russia. At this critical juncture why are we continuing our “war” on U.S. oil and gas production.
Why are we begging OPEC to increase oil production when we have the capability to provide for ourselves and others through the Keystone XL pipeline or drilling in Alaska? Biden and his administration are hyper-obsessed with climate change radicalism that we’ve lost our sense of priorities. John Kerry, the Global Warming Czar, indicated his biggest worry about the Russian invasion is that it will distract Russia from the fight against climate change. Do you think Putin is worried about the carbon emissions from the invasion? Climate change is real and it will continue to change – it’s hubris for us to think we can control the climate and prevent natural disasters.
Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing? (Psalm 2:1)
