O, do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men! Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks! Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle. But you shall be a miracle. Phillips Brooks
We have a tendency to pray for an easy life, but Phillips Brooks reminds us to look beyond the struggle and see how God wants to shape our lives. When we persevere through the challenges we realize the richness of life that comes to us by the grace of God. Phillips Brooks is probably best known as the lyricist of the Christmas hymn, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”.
But He knows the way I take; when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold. (Job 23:10)
