A man will not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will not be moved. (Proverbs 12:3)

What enables you to withstand hardship and adversity? A tree is able to withstand strong winds and adversity because the roots are strong. Solomon noted that a strong root system not only provides stability, but it also enables fruitfulness:

The wicked man desires the booty of evil men, but the root of the righteous yields fruit. (Proverbs 12:12)

How is your root system? The Psalmist provided an illustration of a person with a well-developed root system:

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers. (Psalm 1:3)

This is a person who is not crushed by adversity, but is secure in God. As you meditate upon God and His word, then your roots will go deep. When the roots are deep, we do not need to fear the storms of life.
