At the 3dm Conference this week we discussed how God desires to get our attention in a variety of ways. A Kairos moment is the realization of an opportunity before us. It comes from the Greek word καιρός which may be translated as a seasonable time or an opportunity. It’s the word that’s used for time in Mark 1:15,
(Jesus was) saying, “The time (kairos) is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
A careful look at this verse reveals several principles,
The right side of the diagram addresses the question, “What is God saying?” This is accomplished as you:
Observe what God is doing in your life. Too many times we go through life without seeing what God is doing.
Reflect upon the significance of the event. It is essential that we take time to reflect and process the events of our lives.
Discuss your situation with others who can provide helpful feedback and guidance. “Without consultation, plans are frustrated, but with many counselors they succeed” (Proverbs 15:22).
It’s not enough to simply hear and understand, we must also be doers of the word and that leads us to the left side of the diagram. The left side of the diagram helps you to determine “What are you going to do?”
Plan in light of what you understand God is saying to you. “Commit your works to the LORD and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3).
Find accountability partners who will help you keep your commitment to God.
Act based upon the information you have.
You will find this a helpful strategy for turning vision into action. What is a kairos moment that you have recently experienced? Take some time and apply it to this diagram and see if it may help you.
