The Gift for All People: Thoughts on God’s Great Grace by Max Lucado is a compilation of his devotional thoughts with an emphasis on God’s gift of grace and love for His children. This book is arranged in bite-size devotional nuggets to provide inspirational thoughts for the day.
A central theme throughout this short book challenges readers to embrace their identity in Christ, “God does what we cannot do so we can be what we dare not dream: perfect before God” (p. 71).
Lucado tackles many of the questions that Christians have about their relationship with God; for example, “Why did God choose me?” He examines common reasons and then presents an encouraging response, “The answer is at once simple and profound. He chose you because he wanted to. After all, you are his. He made you. He brought you home. He owns you . . . God doesn’t need you. He wants you” (p. 106).
The book is well written with a number of encouraging stories and practical application of biblical truth. Throughout the book Lucado emphasizes God’s care and concern for His children, “God is often more patient with us than we are with ourselves” (p. 102).
The plan of salvation is clearly presented along with next steps to assist you in your spiritual growth. The book closes with a challenge to claim to your destiny in Christ, “According to the Bible, God’s destiny for your life is salvation” (p. 119).
For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, (1 Thessalonians 5:9)
If you’re looking to encourage someone, The Gift for All People: Thoughts on God’s Great Grace is an excellent choice. (I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review).
