Rejoice in Him

Claire, Elisabeth, Ginger, Julie, and Rick share thoughts from the heart to the heart

What are you choosing?

Everyday we encounter a multitude of choices. We make our choices and then we realize that our choices make us. Your life is the sum total of the choices you’ve made over the years. After Israel entered the promised land, Joshua revealed that they could either follow the gods of the land, or they follow the one true God who had led them out of Egypt. Joshua led the way setting the example,

If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)

You face a similar choice today – will you choose the gods of this world or will you follow the one, true God? What are some of the gods of this world that compete for our attention?

Pleasure – Am I more concerned about my comfort or His glory.

Possessions – Money can be a great servant but a terrible master.

People – When we put people in the place of God we become disappointed when they don’t meet our needs.

Pride – We think we can handle the situation without God.

What are the gods in your life that you need to put away? Robert Frost tells us, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” It is your choices and decisions that determine your destiny. You must make a conscious choice to follow God.

The choice to follow God is not always easy. G.K. Chesterton, wisely observed, “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried.” You are free to choose, but you are not free from the consequences of your choice. Remember, we make our choices and then our choices make us.
