On the 4th of July America celebrates the freedom that we enjoy as a nation.  We must realize however, our true source of freedom.  As Jesus was speaking with His countrymen he declared,

So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.  (John 8:36)

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe trenchantly observed, “Niemand ist hoffnungsloser versklavt als jene, die fälschlicherweise glauben, frei zu sein.”   Translation:  None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.”  May we realize the source of true freedom and not settle for a pseudo freedom the keeps us in bondage.  A prior blog post describes what it means to experience freedom.

True freedom is both a privilege and a responsibility.  Joseph Sizoo explains “Freedom is like a coin. It has the word privilege on one side and responsibility on the other. It does not have privilege on both sides. There are too many today who want everything involved in privilege but refuse to accept anything that approaches the sense of responsibility.”

On this 4th of July may you experience the true meaning of freedom.
